Common space

Common space is a narrative-oriented gamification mechanic. Its function is to create a deeper emotional bond between the user and the game through upgrades or expansion of the common areas.

Common space belongs to the "Avatars" category. Contrary to other avatars, such as Characters, Pets, and Personal space, common space is a location for meeting with the information hub for a specific group or several groups of users.

Common space belongs to Narrative and Social layers in the model of gamification (see Model)

Strong effect

Common space is a visual representation of users' in-game achievements and failures. It helps the user to become deeply immersed in the game and keep up with the most important information through feedback.

Weak effect

As common space has no owner, it can not be individually upgraded. Thus, the main goal is to upgrade it in a way that will suit everyone. The main function of common space is to set up this dynamic system, for instance, by simply painting the common room in the colors of the leading team.

Duration of the effect

A game with an extremely limited set of upgrades and expansions of common space is suitable for short-term objectives. When the gamification is long-term, you should set up several developmental paths and think through in what sequence to present them.

What can I do with this?

Interact
You can further spark users' interest by implementing interactive common space. Like when it can be examined or when we can review the statistics and discover more information by clicking on one object or another. These interactions increase the time spent by users in the system and help them to memorize significant information that can be transmitted through such interactive means.
Choose
Sometimes changes to the common space may be voted for by the community.
Demonstrate
Demonstration of common space is a crucial mechanic that allows players to share their emotions.
